In an ideal world you would never need us. In the real world, however, you probably will.

Our top ten tips in the event of an accident:

1. Keep a pen and paper in your vehicle to make a note of the other parties details.

2. Photographs of the position of the vehicles immediately after impact can prove useful. Your mobile phone could prove invaluable.

3. Ensure that you obtain the full name, address, telephone number, insurance details (including policy number) of the person who caused the accident together with the make, model and registration of the vehicle.

4. Report the accident to the Police and keep a note of the incident number.

5. Obtain the names, addresses and telephone numbers of any independent witnesses to the accident.

6. Report the accident to your insurers who may want to refer you to a panel Solicitor who is unlikely to be local. Langleys would be happy to act for you on the same basis as a panel solicitor i.e. at no cost to yourself.

7. It is always best to attend the Hospitals and/or your GP following the accident if you experience any symptoms as this will ensure that your injuries are documented. Sometimes you can suffer a delayed reaction to an accident.

8. Keep any receipts for anything that you have to purchase as a result of the accident, such as prescriptions, medicines etc and keep a diary of your symptoms including details of any medical appointments.

9. As a Claimant you have a duty to mitigate you losses. This means that you must try to keep any financial loss to a minimum. It is important to keep this in mind.
